About Us
W.L. Norton Sr. founded The Norton Agency in 1928, expanding his insurance business from his hometown of Gainesville, GA into the surrounding 8 counties. The business was expanded to include residential development in 1937. Longstreet Hills was Gainesville’s first residential neighborhood development. Mr. Norton orchestrated the development of the property, on land originally owned by Confederate General William Longstreet. The first lots sold for $300-$400 each. The neighborhood continues to be one of Gainesville’s most desirable residential communities.
1950 brought the groundbreaking for Buford Dam and the development of Lake Sidney Lanier. This brought a great deal of growth to Gainesville, as the city became the regional hub of business, banking, industry, financial establishments, retail centers, medical services, as well as becoming a recreational destination.
Frank K. Norton, W.L. Norton’s youngest son, joined the company in 1952. This brought on an expansion of the business’s focus beyond insurance to developing and selling residential communities throughout the area, as well as managing quality real estate properties.
Bob Norton joined the Insurance Division in 1982. Together with Strother Randolph, who merged his insurance business with Norton in 1986, they have expanded his Independent Insurance Agency to represent over 22 top insurance companies.
In 1986, Frank K. Norton Jr. joined The Norton Agency to direct the Commercial and Residential Real Estate Divisions of the Agency. He was elected President of the firm by the Board of Directors in 1997 and Frank K. Norton, Sr. was elected Chairman of the Board.
